In Italy, tradition says a widowed woman wears black for the rest of her life. That's how this woman, whom I've named "Mama Luci," was dressed as she sat on a curb visiting with friends in her Italian village. However, the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eye told me that inside her, there still was a lot of color. As a result, I took liberties with her kerchief and changed its color to red. She captured my heart, and I attempted to capture her spirit.
